I have been tying a few flies to get prepared for the quickly upcoming season. As soon as I can take a few pictures, I will add them. I am kinda stuck between the tying bright colors and the more natural olives and browns. The fly that interest me the most is one that a buddy of mine came up with last fall. It seemed to work well then, as he caught a monster of a pike! The diving action of the dalhberg diver head mixed with the marabou and zonker tail looks very nice in the water, but the deer hair head takes time to tie. Besides, it normally only last for one large or a couple of small pike before it is too destroyed to use. Now, Umpqua makes a really great looking pike fly. http://orders.montanaflyfishing.com/p-128-umpqua-pike-fly.aspx I would really like to be able to tie one of those up, but as pike are pike, they won't last long.

Hi Mountain man,
So nice to find someone else blogging about pike on the fly. Thanks for the comments regarding mine.
Dahlberg divers are a great fly but I just cant see the point.Maybe for bass but for pike...as you say they don't last long.I like to keep it simple, lots of volume with plenty of flash.Have been using party wig hair on my flies now for 4 yrs and it works a treat.
Anyway have you down in my blog list and will be back for more tomorrow.
Have a top week mate
Simon
Thank you Simon! I find myself at my fly tying bench tying up those divers over and over. Here in Colorado, they work fairly well, but they are not the most durable. I've never thought of party wig hair; might have to give it a shot!
I enjoy reading your blogs entries. I too have you linked on my blog. We'll talk to ya later! and have a great week too.

Have a look in my label cloud and look for Wig hair angel streamer tutorial(found at the bottom). Step by step tutoria, on how to make one. Buck tail is fine but party wig hair is lighter and you can create much more volume with it and its a lot more wavy in the retrieve.
